Shodoshima is another world... |
A mere 75-minute flight from Tokyo, Shodoshima is another world. For sure, it's a Japanese world, but it's one that is rural, tranquil, calm and idyllic...like stepping back in time to a more serene age. Set amidst the waters of the Seto Inland Sea, Shodoshima is semi-tropical, rich in groves of olive trees, pine forests, mountains, magnificent gorges, picturesque villages and warm water bays. The island is home to some 88 Buddhist temples, some more than a millennium old, and is a major focus of pilgrimage. Our visit to Shodoshima includes plentiful free time to enjoy your surroundings, as well as visits to nearby Shikoku Island. |

Shikoku Island & Takamatsu... |
Shodoshima is a 30-minute high-speed ferry ride from Takamatsu, on Japan's Shikoku Island. Connected to the Japanese main island of Honshu by the extraordinary Seto Ohashi Bridge (one of the world's longest), there is much to see on Shikoku Island from Takamatsu's magnificent Ritsurin Park, to Matsuyama Castle, to Heike Historical Museum and the glorious Kotohiragu Shrine. |
